Hirt David Hirt graduated from The Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington (J.D., 1994) after spending a year as a visiting student at The Case Western Reserve School of Law in Cleveland, Ohio. He also earned a Master of Science Degree (M.S., 1988) in geological science at Indiana University and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree (B.S., 1986) in geological science from Kent State University. During the nine years before joining Britton, Smith, Peters & Kalail, Mr. Hirt focused his practice on the representation of boards of education, with an emphasis on special education law, student enrollment and tuition issues, student discipline, and labor and employment law. Mr. Hirt counsels boards and their administrations in all areas of education law, including special education law, student enrollment and tuition issues, student discipline, labor and employment law and the appropriation of real property. In addition to representing the interests of boards of education at meetings with parents and school personnel, in administrative hearings and in court, Mr. Hirt provides in-service training to District personnel in a variety of areas, including special education law, student discipline, and tuition and enrollment issues, including the enrollment of foreign students. Mr. Hirt is a former member of the City of Kent, Ohio, Board of Zoning Appeals. He is admitted to practice in all state courts in the State of Ohio, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, and the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Hirt is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Ohio Council of School Board Attorneys, and the Portage County Bar Association, where he is a member of the certified grievance committee and a past chairperson of that committee.
