John E. Britton is the Firm’s president and has been practicing school law since 1984. Mr. Britton received his undergraduate degree from Valparaiso University (B.A., 1978) and his law degree from the University of Toledo (J.D., 1981). Mr. Britton's practice is dedicated exclusively to the representation of school boards, primarily in litigation, labor relations, special education, pupil personnel, human resource and school finance matters. Mr. Britton has been a frequent presenter and lecturer in the area of school law throughout Ohio and he is the Coordinator of the Ashland Leadership Academy Seminars (ALAS), an administrative leadership program which he helped to establish in 2001. As an adjunct professor at Ashland University, he regularly addresses administrators at ALAS on a variety of topics relating to leadership, accountability and preventive legal maintenance. Mr. Britton has earned an "AV" rating through Martindale-Hubbell and has served on the Executive Committee of the Ohio Council of School Board Attorneys, where he was that group's Chairman in 2003. Mr. Britton is a member of the Akron and Ohio State Bar Associations, the National School Boards Association Council of School Board Attorneys, and the Education Law Association. He also serves as counsel for the Ohio Schools Council Legal Hotline, a division of the Greater Cleveland School Superintendents Association.
